I am an area representative focused on the Urban area of Des Moines including the 5 DMPS schools and leading the Character coach ministry at Grand View university. Today I have helped 5 DMPS schools have running huddles, and after a couple of years we will serve 18 teams (out of 24) with mostly volunteer character coaches. I have been married 10 years to Lindsey – and have 3 boys Antonio (9) Mateo (8) and Moises (6).

Born and raised in small town Mexico, My Grandparents and some of my 13 uncles and aunts would take turns taking care of me. At 12 my father and I crossed the Rio Grande for a better life. At 17, after being kicked out of the house , my Coach Ubaldo Peña told me about Jesus. Felt called to vocational ministry and while working back in Mexico a family from Adel Iowa unofficially adopted me and brought me to the USA for college. My family here lead an FCA HS huddle for years.
Since then, I have worked in different churches, lead different ministries, lived in Italy and Brazil and played soccer at a high level including still having the best season record at Simpson college and playing for one of the best college teams in Brazil. My time in urban Chicago rekindled my fire for sports ministries and the immigrant community. My wife Lindsey and I live in the urban area of DM and have 3 kids ( and a dog) that are in the DMPS system, so we are all in in being the hands and feet of Jesus in our community.
Recently I have focused in the Urban area of Des Moines including the 5 DMPS schools and leading the Character coach ministry at Grand View university. Today I have helped 5 DMPS schools have running huddles and after a couple of years we will serve 18 teams (out of 24) with mostly volunteer character coaches. Over 700 Student-athletes will hear God’s word in a weekly basis during the season. In the future we want to expand how we serve in the Urban by creating more organized sports experiences for our youth.
